Attendance Matters

Did you know missing 10 percent or more school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects and ninth-graders dropping out of high school?

Veterans Elementary School PBIS encourages students to be at school everyday and on-time.

PBIS Attendance Initiatives:

• We have monthly attendance celebrations for students with perfect attendance and no tardies.

• Students receive weekly attendance certificates for perfect attendance with no tardies.

• We have a Hero Attendance Accountability Team that meets with parents to collaborate and help families overcome attendance barriers.

• Attendance Champions meet with students daily to check in and support students with chronic absenteeism.

• PBIS Attendance Team meets weekly to problem-solve and find solutions for families.

• We are piloting the Post Card Communications district initiative for students in grades PreK – 1st grade.
